The Colorado Association of Healthcare Executives (CAHE) held its first breakfast and morning program in conjunction with the Colorado Hospital Association's (CHA) 82nd Annual Meeting on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort, Vail, CO. The guest speaker was Christopher D. Van Gorder, FACHE, Member of the ACHE Board of Governors and President and Chief Executive Officer, Scripps Health, San Diego, CA who presented "New Genomics and Translational Medicine Program at Scripps Health." Scripps Health is on the road to scientific discovery with the establishment of the Scripps Genomic Medicine Program and Translational Science Institute last year. The future of healthcare - individualized medicine - is unfolding at Scripps where renowned physician-scientist Eric Topol is creating the only genomic medicine program in the nation that goes from gene discovery all the way to gene-based clinical trials. Van Gorder recruited Topol, who led the research team that discovered the "heart attach gene" from the Cleveland Clinic. The ultimate goal of the program is to tailor medicine for the individual and evolve healthcare away from a one-size fits all approach. For ACHE-affiliated attendees, this event was pre-approved for 1.25 ACHE Category II continuing education hours.
A special THANK YOU to Merritt, Hawkins and Associates for sponsoring the event and to the Colorado Hospital Association for hosting the event. |
